What is a postpartum doula?
Doula is the Greek word meaning "to mother the mother".
A postpartum doula is hired to help ease the transition of welcoming
a new, little person into the world. Doulas nurture and support
new parents, assist in the learning curve of parenthood and help
all family members integrate the new baby by offering emotional
support and practical assistance.
What can I expect?
Services are provided in your home and are very flexible in order
to meet the needs of each family.
Some common services include
- Mother care and childbirth recovery
- Newborn care and education
- Instruction and assistance with infant bathing, diapering,
breastfeeding and bottle feeding
- Light housekeeping and meal preparation
- Sibling care
- Referrals
- Overnights (generally 10pm-6am)
Please be aware that there is a minimum of 4 hours per visit.
Can I meet you first?
I simply love working with infants and new families and am so excited
to be able to do what I do. I realize that hiring a doula to come
into your home during such a vulnerable, changing and special time
in your life is a big decision. Thank you in advance for considering
me as your doula. I would love to talk with you via phone, e-mail
or personal consultation to see if I would be a good match for your
family.
A free one-hour, no obligation consultation is available to each
family.
How much does it cost?
Daytime Rate: $30 per hour.
Overnight Rate: $260 for an 8 hour shift. $30 per additional
hour.
Overnight Rate for Multiples: $280 for an 8 hour shift. $35
per additional hour.
*Mileage/travel time may be charged for families living further
than a 30 minute commute away from doula (Greenlake area of Seattle).
Doula services make the perfect baby shower gift. New parents will
soon forget the cute outfit or funny toy but they will always remember
the priceless gift of an extra set of hands, a pair of listening
ears, an educated, experienced helper and an open heart during the
postpartum time.
Please note: I do not work in homes where smoking occurs.
